Resources for Independence (RFI) is a Center for Independent Living (CIL) dedicated to promoting independence, accessibility, self-advocacy, productivity, and quality of life for individuals with significant disabilities. We serve residents of Allegany, Garrett, and Washington Counties in Maryland.

A CIL is a grassroots, advocacy-driven organization run by and for people with disabilities. CILs focus on civil rights, the independent living philosophy, and inclusion. The Independent Living Movement emphasizes consumer control, achieved through the staff and Board of Directors of each CIL being comprised of at least 51% individuals with significant disabilities.

RFI offers four core services:

1. Information and Referral: Providing individuals with information about resources and services available in the community.
2. Independent Living Skills Training: Assisting individuals in developing skills necessary for independent living.
3. Peer Counseling: Offering support and guidance from individuals who have similar experiences.
4. Advocacy: Empowering individuals to advocate for their rights and access to services.

Services are available to individuals with significant disabilities residing in Allegany, Garrett, and Washington Counties in Maryland.
