Resources for Independence has teamed up with Columbia Gas to give additional aide to local United States Veterans who are currently homeless. “Columbia Gas came to us before Veteran’s Day and wanted to give the agency $1,500 to help local veterans in some way,” said a RFI spokesperson. “We are going to provide them with a meal and a list of things they can use.”

The agency has contacted both the Allegany County Union Rescue Mission and the Northern Point Veteran’s Program in Hagerstown for distribution. The RFI staff and Board of Directors are also asking members of the community to donate to the cause if they are able. Items that are needed include socks, gloves, hats, handwarmers, twin bedsheets, twin comforters, blankets, and towels. Items can be dropped off at the Barton American Legion, Frostburg American Legion, Oldtown VFW, Henny’s Grill & Bar in LaVale, and Lashbaugh’s Bar & Grill in Cresaptown during their regular business hours.  Donations will be collected January 3rd -10th.
